VirtualNMS offers NMS consultations to patients remotely on behalf of community pharmacies.
VirtualNMS offers NMS consultations to patients remotely on behalf of community pharmacies. We work with most PMR systems and will provide the pharmacy with digital PDF of each consultation and provide quarterly reports ready to submit to NHSBSA when required.
The New Medicine Service (NMS) is a service offered by community pharmacies to support individuals who have been prescribed a new medicine for a long-term condition. It aims to help patients better understand their medication, address any concerns or issues, and improve adherence to the prescribed treatment.
Pharmacists provide information about the new medication, discuss its purpose, potential side effects, and answer any questions the patient may have. The service typically involves follow-up consultations to monitor the patient’s progress, address ongoing concerns, and ensure the medication is being taken correctly.
The NHS New Medicine Service contributes to patient education, medication management, and overall healthcare outcomes by fostering communication between patients and pharmacists during the initial stages of a new prescription
Engagement: Enrolling the patient into the service and obtaining consent
Intervention: Consultation between the pharmacist and patient where the Pharmacist will provide information about the new medication, discuss its purpose, and potential side effects, and answer any questions the patient may have
Follow-up: Consultation between the pharmacist and patient to monitor the patient’s progress, address ongoing concerns, and ensure the medication is being taken correctly.
